We started our first Ramadhan buffet this year at Federal Hotel in Bukit Bintang. Me and my hubby were planning to meet our friends who have never experienced the Ramadhan Buffet before and we decided to take them somewhere they can experience both Malaysian as well as Western type of food. We were not really sure if the buffet will be good since we did not have quite a good experience of 'Buka Puasa' at one of the five star hotels around Bukit Bintang area last year. It was quite frustrating especially when you know this 5 star hotel hired people who worked at the stall to cook for the buffet.
So both of us were quite concerned if our friends as well as us will not enjoy the food at the restaurant in Royale Bintang. From the hotel's description of the buffet for the Ramadhan at The Verandah, it sounded quite good and interesting. Oh well, we just have to give a try right if not we would not know about it.
We arrived at the hotel slightly earlier than we thought. We had to wait a little bit before the buka puasa. It gave some time to catch up with our friends about the latest news and stories. We then went around to have a look at the selection of food that the hotel provided. the selection of food was actually really good and appetising. Both of us we drooling over the food and had a difficulty to decide which one to take first.
There were five sections for the buffet, the first one is at the outside where they have food such as Roti Canai, Beriani, Mee Kari, Lok Lak and Nasi Ayam. And on the aother side of the restaurant which is still at the outside, a selection of satay, tandoori chicken and nasi impit were served
Meanwhile in the restaurant there are the middle part where the main malaysia food as well as salad and kerabu were served. They also cooked a wide range or dessert as well as western food, such as rosemary roast potatoes, roasted lamb, lasagna, crispy duck and mix veggies.
All of us were so stuffed at the end of the big feast. We were really glad that we did try the buffet at this hotel and we definitely recommend for people out there who are big eating out fan to try the Ramadhan buffet here at The Royale Bintang.

Ramadhan
I am so grateful to be given a chance to celebrate Ramadhan again this year 2010. This year I will have a chance to write my experience trying Ramadhan Buffet at restaurants and hotel cafes in this blog. I always look forward for the Ramadhan every year. The excitement of fasting, dealing with the daily routine as well as getting up early in the morning for sahur make Ramadhan the special month of the year.
May our Ramadhan this year will be filled with blessings and happiness....Amin....

KRB Waterfront Ampang |
Crispy Wedges |
We went into the restaurant with the hope that the food will be good. Judging by the atmospehere of the place at that time, we were'nt really sure what to expect of the place. It was so dead quiet and there was nobody there. The staffs were just sitting around nothing much to do.
Crunchy Chicken Chop |
We ordered our food after browsing the menu for quite a while. The menu was quite various from Malay type of food to simple Western food. We ordered some starters such as wedges and mushroom soup (recommended by the staff) while waiting for the main course. We were so suprised and amazed especially with the soup, it was really good, made from scratch and fresh. I can taste the mushroom bits in it. The wedges were crunchy and tasty too. Nothing much to comment on the food though.
I ordered for Curry Noodle for my main course. It was not that bad except that the cockles that they put in were not fresh and smelly. I did not finish my meal eventhough the portion was not too big.
The real authentic Mushroom Soup |
My hubby and my sister asked for chicken chop for their main course. It was quite nice and good. The portion of the food was just nice, not too big or small. The chicken was crispy and tender while the chips were crispy too.
All and all this place is not too bad. The food is good especially the mushroom soup and it is reasonable. We were not really impressed with the waterfront view but it did not dampen our overall judgement of the restaurant.

No Eye Deer
This time we decided to try some western food that we can get in Penang especially along Tanjung Bungah area. Not to say that we had enough of Nasik Kandar (we can never be, it is very addicted you know) we thought it is not fair not to explore and try other type of food while we were still in Penang the Pearl of Orient. We had a couple of places to go for dinner that night but we came to agree to try this place because of it's name.
A: I am hungry, we really need to get something to eat now.
B: What do you have in your mind, what do you feel like eating?
A: Don't know, I have 'no idea'.
That is a very common phrase uses whenever me and my hubby are thinking what and where to eat. Thus, this restaurant had helped us to choose and decide what to have for dinner because it is called No Eyed Deer (No Idea). We wondered and pondered what would be in for the meals and would it be good and nice one. No Idea.....
We asked for Chicken Parmigiana and Fish and Chips. Normal kind of food to have at western place. We were not really sure what to expect but we really like the decoration and environment of the place. It is very peaceful and quiet and the staffs are very helpful and prompt.
We tried our first bite of the food and we were really impressed and amazed with the texture and the freshness (especially the fish) of them. The chicken was served with the parmigiana sauce as the topping plus the melted cheese made the meal perfect and superb. The fish was really fresh and crunchy. The batter for the fish is really nice and it did not make me feel sick after eating the meal. The batter was not too oily either and the sauce had completed my meal for the nite. I like the simplicity yet delicious meal. It was really a good meal indeed.
I would recommend anyone to go and try the food here whenever you have a chance. Two thumbs up for the food, atmosphere and even the price. This restaurant has everything in a package to be considered as one of the best eating place.

David's Diner
This time me and my hubby decided to try one of the places recommended in http://www.j2kfm.com/ blog as the reviews of this place is really tempting. we can feel the welcoming and warm auras the moment we entered this place. We say lots of people enjoying their meals having a good chat and laugh and the busy staffs catering the customers need to the max and the manager who always checking and making sure everyone is happy and having a good time.
The ambience of the place is simple yet cosy and relaxingThe staff are really prompt and friendly. The moment we sat and settling down one of the staffs came and explain us the set menus they have and what are the best in the house. I love the decoration, staff and definitely the FOOD!!!!.
I asked for the dinner set menu. The menu consisted of soup (Mushroom), drink ( I asked for Orange juice) and the main course which is a really top notch. I had crispy fried fish and the meal came with coleslaw, roasted potatoes (the best one I have ever tried) and of course the fish. I was enjoying the meal so much that I just let the clinking cutlery did the talking. The fish was crispy and not oily despite the deep fried one. It was light and crunchy from the outside and soft and juicy from the inside. Every single bite made me wanted to have more and more. Not to forget the roasted potatoes to compliment the meal. The portion was just nice and the taste was amazing. It was indeed a miraculous dinner I have ever had. Simple yet delicious.
While my husband had mushroom burger for his dinner and raspberry lemon tea to go along with it. The burger pattie was a homemade one as well as the burger bun. The meal came with french fries and baked potato with cour cream and chives. The beef pattie looked juicy, soft and tender glistening with mushroom as well as cheese. My husband enjoyed his meal with less complain and lots of compliments. The burger might look small but don't get fool by the size. It was actually quite filling and satisfying. My husband gave two thumbs up for the burger, both of quality and quantity.
We really had a good night at David's Diner. Kudos to the staff as well as the manager. I hope they will keep up the good work to make this place a well known place in Ipoh.

Nasi Kandar Hameediyah
One of my trainees recommended us to try this Nasi Kandar while we were still in Penang. It is situated somewhere in Jalan Chowrasta along the small street. We managed to spot the place with no fail as it is just next to the main street. There were a lot of people queueing up to get their meals for the day.The Nasi Kandar here is a bit different than the infamous Nasi Kandar Line Clear. There were a variety of meat to choose and not that much seafood compared to the other one.
We at first decided not to choose that much for the dishes as we did not want to be greedy and stuffed ourselves up too much. However we changed our intention when we saw the selection of food. There were grilled lamb, turkey, beef and mutton curry. We were really spoilt with the choices that we ended up took the turkey curry, grilled lamb and some veggie.
The Nasik Kandar here serves the rice and dishes in separate plates which is good as it gave me and my hubby chance to share our meals together. We were not really sure what would the turkey curry taste as we have never tried it before. The first bite of the succulent, soft and tender turkey meat surprised us. The turkey meat was actually taste really good and juicy. I really enjoyed the meat and the curry that I did not even try any vegetable.
Meanwhile my hubby loves the grilled lamb a lot that he ate most of the meat and left the rice unattended. The grilled lamb was really tender and juicy with less fat in it. It was grilled to perfection and almost burn which gave a very distinctive flavour mixed with the herb and the meat. It was a simple grill but the combination of the meat, herbs as well as the way of grilling it had made the dish the most astounding one for the day.
We enjoyed the nasik kandar at this restaurant very much and will definitely come back whenever we have the chance. The people here are very friendly, quick and warm and the food is the top notch Nasik Kandar I have ever had. Voila to Nasik Kandar Hameediyah!

Out of Africa
It has been a while I have not been updating my blog with the latest eating out places as I have been busy with personal and work related assignment. Anyway, I shall start my first blog entry for 2010 with outstanding and great comments of this one place that me and my hubby were meant to go ages ago but we only managed to do that last December together to celebrate our anniversary.
My hubby surprised me by taking me to the restaurant. I was so excited when I saw the place and eager to check the menu and place the order. The ambiance of the place is superb and cosy. It is neither too posh nor too simple. I like the interior design where they put some African decorations as well as zebra skin on the wall. I immediately settle down and get comfy with less problem.
We browsed the menu and I was not sure what I wanted to have as all the menu looks really good and scrumptious. We took almost 20 minutes to decide what we wanted to have and read every single description of the food in case if we missed any restaurant speciality. After taking for quite some time looking at the menu we finally made up our mind on what to have for the night. I asked for Ostrich Schnitzel (Ostrich escalope bread crumbed & lightly fried served with peri-peri gratinated with cheese) and my hubby had asked for Braaied Boerewors (South Africa's most famous food - farmer sausage skillfully made from
minced lamb and beef and carefully selected South African spices,
cooked over the coals and served with our Peri-Peri sauce). We agreed to pass the appetiser as we saw a good range of selection for the desserts.
It didn't take that long for us to wait for the main course to come. We were so delighted to see our food served in front of us. The ostrich looks and tastes superb, every single bite gave me a tingling sensation of the peri2 sauce and melted cheese. My husband enjoyed his sausage very much and he cannot stop admiring the good quality of the sausage while eating it. The portion of food is generous and filling. I ended up not able to finish my food and needed my husband (as usual) to help me to finish it. It was really astonishing and exhilarating meals.
We did not wait long to order our dessert after the main course. I asked for African Queen (Chocoholics Special! Dark chocolate filed with cherries, nuts and biscuits
served with freshly whipped cream) and my husband had asked for Cape Brandy Pudding (A favourite Cape classic. A delicious date cake topped with walnuts drenched
with brandy syrup and served with freshly whipped cream or vanilla ice-cream &
butterscotch sauce). Oh my god!!!!!both desserts taste like heaven. Love them so much. Both if us were smiling while enjoying every single bite of the desserts. They are really superb and marvellous.
We ended the dinner by having Irish coffee for my hubby and cafe latte for me. We ended our night with big smiles and great feeling. It was a really great and superb place to eat. Food is great and the people are amazing. We will definitely come back to this restaurant. Opppsss.....did I not mention the name of the place...oh well...want to keep it suspense till the end. The place that we went that night is called.........
" Out Of Africa and Kudu Bar".
It is situated at: No 1 Lorong Sultan , Kelab Syabas
